Paterson, Katherine. (1972). Bridge to Terabithia. New York: HarperCollins
Publishers.
This is a story of friendship and courage
that takes place in the summer and is about a new girl in town (Leslie) who
steals a boy’s (Jess) victory on a race by breaking the rules. Despite their differences they become very
good friends. He helps her get through difficult situtations and she introduces
him into her world of imagination and magic which was called Terabithia. It is here where they would escape the bullies
and troubles of the real world. They both rule Terabithia until an unfortunate
event takes place and Leslie dies leaving only Jess to rule Terabithia on his
own.
This story can be used for creative writing
and to teach how two people with differences can create an everlasting
friendship and open their minds to be more accepting of others regardless of
their differences.
